Artificial Intelligence

Nowadays, there’s a lot of buzz going around artificial intelligence at the moment and the term AI seems to be spread around a lot. But what is it exactly?

To clear things up I will explain to you about AI in a very simple yet interesting way.

First of all, let’s take a look at the definition. To avoid confusion, we have to go back and hence the purest definition of AI from the time when it was first coined. The official idea and the definition of AI were first coined by Jay McCartney in 1955 at the Dartmouth conference. Of course, a lot of research work has been done on Artificial intelligence by others such as Alan Turing before this but what they were working on was an undefined field before 1955.

Okay, so here’s what McCarthy proposed

“Every aspect of learning or any other feature of intelligence can in principle be so precisely described that a machine can be made to simulate it. An attempt will be made to find how to make machines use language, form abstractions and concepts, solve kinds of problems now reserved for humans, and improve themselves.”

So what it means is that AI is a machine with the ability to solve problems that are usually done by us humans with our natural intelligence. A computer would demonstrate a form of intelligence and when it learns how to improve itself at solving these problems.

To explain briefly, the 1955 proposal defines seven areas of Artificial intelligence. Today there are surely more but here are the original seven.

The original 7 Aspects of A.I. (1955)

1. Simulating higher functions of the human brain.

2. Programming a computer to use general language.

3. Arranging hypothetical neurons in a manner so that they can form concepts.

4. A way to determine and measure problem complexity.

5. Self-improvement

6. Abstraction

7. Randomness and creativity

After 65 years, I think realistically we have completed the language, measure problem complexity, and self-improvement to at least some degree. However, randomness and creativity are just starting to be explored.

This year we have seen a couple of web episodes, short films, and even feature length films co-written or completely written by AI. That doesn’t make sense, but here are few results for your entertainment anyway:-

1. Impossible things

2. Surprising

3. PBS Idea Channel (Episode written by AI)

Okay so in the definition you heard the word “Intelligence” well what is intelligence? According to some well-known researchers

The most important factors of intelligence are

1. generalization learning ( perform better in situations not encountered before)

2. reasoning ( to draw an appropriate conclusion )

3. problem-solving

4. perception (self-driving cars are the best example)

5. Language understanding

Okay, now we have an understanding of AI and intelligence. To make you understand more and solidify the concept in your mind of what Artificial intelligence is, here are few examples of AI- Machine learning, computer vision, robotics, pattern recognition, and knowledge management

Role of AI in Gaming

It will make games smarter

If you have ever played a multiplayer tactical first-person game, then you have encountered Artificial Intelligence. The most common role of Artificial intelligence in video games is controlling non-player characters and generating behavioral patterns that mimic human intelligence. Like the bots in the games like PUBG and Counterstrike.

More realistic environments

Another way in which AI will revolutionize the gaming industry is that it will improve and create visuals and make game environments more realistic and natural.

The better online gaming experience

Artificial intelligence has resulted in an improved gaming experience, especially in online gaming. For example, online casinos have been using artificial technology for years to improve the fairness and competitiveness of casino games.

There also different types of artificial intelligence in terms of approach. The strong AI and weak AI. The strong A.I. simulates the human brain by developing systems that think and let us know, how the brain works in different conditions and it also tells us about how our brain approaches the problems.

Strong A.I. can do anything as well better than humans.

So now let’s look at some of the daily examples to understand more about AI.

Unlock your phone with a face ID

One of the first things many people do each morning is to reach for their smartphones. So when you put your face in front of the sensor, the sensor sends thousands of rays to detect your face, and to do this feature a strong AI is working behind it.

Google maps and ride-Hailing Application

They help to determine the price of your ride. They also minimize the wait time once you hail a car. Their services optimally match you with other passengers to minimize detours.

Banking Sector

Artificial intelligence is deployed in our banking system in many ways. It is greatly involved in the security of our transactions and to detect fraud. If you deposit a check by scanning it with your phone, get a low-balance alert, or even log on to your online banking account, Artificial Intelligence is at work behind the scenes.

Digital voice assistants

Checking out the climate for your upcoming weekend, digital voice assistants are quickly becoming our co-pilots through life. Siri, Alexa, Google Home, and Cortana use natural language processing and generators controlled by AI to return answers to you.

Smart Cars and Drones

Driverless cars, drone delivery systems self-parking cars, etc these are the best example of this. Companies like Tesla, Ford are spending huge amounts of money in research and development of this concept.

Companies like Amazon and Walmart are investing a huge amount of money in drone delivery programs and it will become a reality far sooner than what you expect.

Social Media Feeds

The feeds that you scroll daily, there is a great use of AI in this. The AI sorts out the things according to your preferences and shows you only the updated contents. Your past searches, interaction, and everything tries to improvise the experience.

Conclusion

Artificial Intelligence is the technology loved by every business as it develops the perfect working, and it enhances the user experience of their service and products.

It would be unfair for sure if I write about the conclusion of AI. AI is such a vast ocean of exploration that I think we have just understood just 1% of it. It is difficult to say whether this technology will create jobs in the future, yet there is a never-ending chase of the Machine and humans, it will run in an unparalleled way to achieve in the form of BEST

Who knows if this blog is also being written by an AI?
